Lisa Heinrich is a professor emerita of mass communications at St. Cloud State University, where for 22 years she taught public relations, advertising, media ethics, business writing, and various media/journalism courses. Her consulting work has included teaching writing courses, editing and writing articles for magazines and newspapers, and translating and interpreting. Heinrich holds a master's degree in English literature from the University of Minnesota, a Ph.D. in Russian literature and linguistics from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., and national accreditation in public relations. She has written over 90 articles for her column on local history, “Close to Home,” for the Villager newspaper in St. Paul, and eight travel articles for the Saint Paul Pioneer Press Sunday travel section.
